So tell me, where did we get the notion that the Christian life is a piece of cake? Where is the evidence for the “name it, claim it” theology that promises God will skip along in front of us with His great Cosmic Broom, sweeping aside each trail and every troubling uncertainty? On the contrary, Jesus told His disciples that they should anticipate suffering. He said, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” John 16:33. Paul wrote, “In all our troubles my joy knows no bounds. For when we came into Macedonia, this body of ours had no rest, but we were harassed at every turn – conflicts on the outside, fears within” 2 Cor 7:4-5. Continue reading
All biblical writers, including the giants of the faith, went through hardships. Look at the experience of Joseph, one of the patriarchs of the Old Testament. His entire life was in shambles until the triumphal reunion with his family many years later. He was hated by his brothers, who considered killing him before deciding to sell him as a slave. While in Egypt, he was imprisoned, falsely accused of attempted rape by Potiphar’s wife, and threatened with execution. There is no indication that God explained to Joseph what He was doing through those many years of heartache, or how the pieces would eventually fit together. He was expected, like you and me, to live out his days one at a time in something less than complete understanding. What pleased God was Joseph’s faithfulness when nothing seemed to make sense. Hmmmmm, falling into sin is not an event, it is a process. When you are on fire for God, Satan is afraid of you. But guess what, you are his target, you are on his watch list. Those times when you are hot and on fire, he watches from afar, Satan is never in a hurry, he can wait for 30 years to accomplish his aim.
You are never on Satan’s watch list if you are not a problem to the kingdom of darkness. If you are branded for Christ, you will be noted in hell and declared wanted. When things are blazing, Satan is not moved. See His strategy. Continue reading
Psalm 139:1 & 3 speak of our all-knowing God’s all-encompassing, intimate understanding of us. David says, “You have searched me, Lord, and You know me.. .. ..You discern my going out and my lying down; You are familiar with all my ways.” We wonder about the whys, whens and hows of life-often forgetting that though we do not know everything, we know the God who does.
Its comforting to know God loves us perfectly, is fully aware of what we will face today, tomorrow and He knows how best to help us in every circumstance of life. Trust Him
These verses are meant to inspire and encourage your prayer life when you face uncertainties. Don’t shy away, don’t tell yourself God is never going to forgive you or He has deserted you for the many times that you have fallen or failed to heed His voice. He is faithful and just to forgive. Also remember, the Holy Spirit intercedes for us and God knows your heart even if you can’t find the words to pray. Continue reading
