Peace from Forgiveness & Reconciliation
Whenever there is conflict, we are urged to seek for peace through dialogue at the table of reconciliation. Unfortunately, the call for peace through dialogue and reconciliation has often gone unheeded, resulting in war and violence and loss of innocent lives. And when we reflect on the numerous wars and loss of lives that has happened and still happening, we will come to realize that, it is peace we just don’t want.
The fact is that, peace can only come about through forgiveness and reconciliation. This the message of Jesus in Luke 19:41-44, that peace for His people can only happen when they repent and ask for forgiveness and be reconciled with God and with each other. If our hearts are not at peace because of resentment and anger, or even hatred and revenge, then it is time to turn to God and ask for forgiveness and healing.
41 As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it 42 and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. 43 Thedays will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. 44 They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.” Luke 19:41-44 New International Version (NIV)
Lord, open our eyes to recognize the signs pointing our hearts towards peace as we ask for forgiveness and healing so that the peace of God will reign in our hearts. Amen
