We always have this tendency to want to have a hold on the future in order to have a sense of security. We end up getting so engrossed about wanting to know the future that we lose hold of the present.
We forget to live in the here and now. And that is what Jesus meant when He said that “the kingdom of God is among you” (Luke 17:21-25). In other words, the kingdom of God is in the present and in the now!
21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you. 22 And he said unto the disciples, The days will come, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and ye shall not see it.
23 And they shall say to you, See here; or, see there: go not after them, nor follow them.
24 For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day. 25 But first must he suffer many things, and be rejected of this generation. Luke 17:21-25 (New International Version – NIV)
God wants to be present in the NOW of our lives and it is in the here and now that He reveals Himself to us. Our present may not look that nice and rosy. We may be struggling in our difficulties and worries and anxieties.
Yet it is in those difficulties and struggles that God reveals to us how much He loves us. He even let His only Son Jesus suffer grievously and die for us. In Jesus we are assured that God will always be with us. He never stops loving us.
