Just a Touch

Today, Mark 5:21-43 presents us with two miracle stories: the first is the healing of the woman with hemorrhage for 12 years, and the second, restoring the dead daughter of the leader of the synagogue back to life. Both accounts illustrate the need for faith in our relationship with Jesus. Just a Touch of His garments or of His spoken words.

The synagogue official requests that Jesus comes to touch her dead daughter. Note that in Judaism, touching a dead person renders one unclean (Nm 19: 11-13). With the woman with hemorrhage she intended to touch the cloak of Jesus. This also meant that Jesus will be unclean until evening according to the Jewish law (Lev. 15: 19-30). But Jesus was never unclean though he defied all these Jewish laws of touch.

Dear one, the touch of Jesus can only make us clean from our ‘uncleanliness’. And our uncleanliness varies; our sins, weaknesses, bad habits and many others. All we need is the miracle touch of Jesus. Perhaps you are struggling with an uncleanliness for years and feel it is so much of a burden, just don’t despair but wait for the touch of Jesus that makes all that is unclean clean. Jesus’ miracle touch is abundant in very hopeless and desperate situations. May you experience a miraculous touch from Jesus today.

Prayer (Just a Touch)

Father Lord God, to Thee I come, before Thee I stand, sinful and sorrow. Have mercy Lord on my sinful soul. Heal me with the touch of Your hands, with a touch of Your words. Make me whole again through Christ our Lord. Amen
