The Pharisees in Mark 8:11-13, wanted Jesus to give them a sign so that they can make a judgement about his messiahship. And in asking Jesus for a sign, they have left Jesus with the burden of proving that he is the Messiah.
11 The Pharisees came and began to question Jesus. To test him, they asked him for a sign from heaven. 12 He sighed deeply and said, “Why does this generation ask for a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to it.” 13 Then he left them, got back into the boat and crossed to the other side. Mark 8:11-13 (New International Version – NIV)
As we ourselves know, Jesus does not need to match our criteria for us to believe in Him. His deeds and words are enough proof that he is truly the Messiah. It holds true in our daily lives also, our believe in Jesus must not be dependent on how he meets our standards or demands.
Jesus has no further need to prove that he is God. The contrary is rather the case; we need to prove that we are children of God by meeting the demands of Christ. We cannot give Jesus conditions so that when he ‘fails’ to meet them then we lose faith in him. Let the example and testimony of others lead us to Christ Jesus.
