A temple is a place where the spirit of God dwells or is a house of worship. In the ancient times, the temple of God was only seen as a structure or a building, where Christians go to worship the most high but Jesus Christ made it known that; our bodies are the temple of God and that, it must be kept holy in order to achieve the will of God (1 Corinthians :6:19-20).
WHY SHOULD OUR BODY BE TREATED LIKE GOD’S TEMPLE
Our bodies were created in the image of God. They are gifts from our Heavenly Father to allow us to experience mortality and continue to become more like him. This knowledge influences the way we treat our bodies and how we feel about our Heavenly Father and ourselves. When we treat our bodies as a temple of God, we obtain physical, emotional and spiritual blessings. Again, our bodies should be treated as God’s temple because GOD IS YOU. Since our body is the temple of God and God dwells in it, we can praise and worship him anyplace and anytime. God is in you and therefore you do not need a building or a place to show you are worshiping him. A clean heart and a body is the appropriate place for worship.
THINGS THAT MAKE THE TEMPLE OF THE LORD SEIZE TO BE HOLY
1. Fornication (Deuteronomy :5:18, 1 Thessalonians 4:3)
Fornication can also make your body or temple unclean before God. It draws God away from any Christian who goes into such act and it becomes difficult for him to hear you while communicating. Also as an individual, fornication can lead one to contract STD’s even if you are forgiven by God, you face the consequences.
2. Tattoo, smoking and drinking of alcohol can also destroy the temple of God. Such act can also be forgiven by God when one ask for forgiveness, but yet still has to face the consequences because the end results of such act is cancer, and can eventually lead you to death. Since cleanliness is next to Godliness let us try and keep the temple holy and acceptable before God to enable us enjoy the great benefits He has promised us such as to have eternal life physically and spiritually. Again, 1 Peter 1:16, Leviticus 19:1-2 also tells us we must be holy because God is holy. There’s a need to keep it holy for him to stay in our temple and become close and tight to us.
Stealing, murder, idolatry, adultery just to mention a few are the things that make the temple of the Lord unholy.
Let’s try and make our temple holy Because it feels good to live in a decent clean home compared to a filthy home. Amen
